(De)Construction of Ideals

(De)Construction of Ideals sees a sentimentally significant and physically cumbersome possession broken down and reformed into paper to be dispersed with the help of the viewer.

The heavy cabinet is transformed into an open-ended gesture of potential and freedom as the paper traverses the globe. The physical and mental burden of the object on its owner, the artist’s mother, is not entirely lost, being transferred to the participant as a consequence of their decision to own a piece of the artwork. The fragile, handmade paper disintegrates as it is handled, further diffusing the material of the cabinet into the world, suggesting the temporal nature of possession and human existence whilst calling into question the lasting effect of our possessions on the natural world.
